More Large Container Ships Will Be "Unemployed"

In 2018, Maersk Shipping idled one of its 18,000 TEU 3E container ships and predicted that more ships would join the "unemployed" ranks. Overcapacity is still a huge problem for the global fleet. According to the Alphaliner website, the idle capacity of container ships has soared to the highest level in history. As the gap between supply and demand continues to widen, more and more large vessels have been in the state of "unemployment". At present, the idle capacity of container ships has increased from 346 ships/1.43 million standard boxes in early March to 352 ships/1.57 million standard boxes.


In 2018, Maersk Shipping idled one of its 18,000 TEU 3E container ships and predicted that more large container ships would join the "unemployment" team. According to Lloyd's intelligence data, MSC Oliver and MSC Maya, the world's largest container ships owned by Mediterranean Corporation (MSC), are currently idle and berthed in Changchengpu, Busan, with other container ships.
